Jaro Fiesta 2010 – Feast of our Lady of Candles

The Jaro fiesta is one of the grandest fiesta of Candelaria. Every 2nd day of February, thousands of devotees gather to pay homage to the Nuestra Sra. De la Candelaria. Afterwards, the devotees can enjoy generous feast prepared by their Salognon(resident of Jaro) relatives or friends. The main event of the fiesta is the coronation of the Fiesta Queen.

Jaro Fiesta 2010 Insight
As expected, the traffic flow of Jaro was heavily congested due to re-routing. Other than that the fiesta went smoothly. As we wandered around the plaza, we caught a glimpse of Tribu Salognon preparing for their performance. Assorted items were sold on the sidewalks such as sea shells from capiz, bibingka, different variations of orchids and ukay ukay.
Devotees gathered in the Jaro cathedral to pay homage to the Nuestra Sra. De la Candelaria. The authorities should really do something about the beggars and really aggressive religious relic vendor. I highly doubt the authenticity of some “blind” beggars that’s begging for alms in front of church. Then there was this old lady that pinned something on my shirt despite me saying a firm “no”. But she insisted that I take it, but afterwards she wants a donation. When I couldn’t produce the money, she wants the items back.
